Okinawan Shuri-Ryu incorporates “Eight Performance Categories” for its practitioners to become accomplished in.

Power & Form Techniques
Develop strong, precise techniques with an emphasis on proper form, balance, focus, and power. Ippons help students build the fundamentals needed to execute techniques with confidence and control.
Speed & Flow Techniques
Build speed, coordination, and fluid movement by connecting techniques together. Taezus teach students to transition smoothly while maintaining proper form and control.
Attack the Attack & Angling Techniques
Learn to respond to an attack using effective angles, timing, and positioning. Kihons reinforce practical defensive movements while developing awareness and reaction skills.
Formal Exercises
Practice structured sequences of traditional karate techniques designed to strengthen fundamentals. Kata develops balance, precision, movement, breathing, focus, and overall technical proficiency.
Free Exercise
Explore techniques through more fluid and less structured movement. Jiyu Undo helps students become comfortable adapting their skills while improving coordination, timing, and natural movement.
Form Sparring
Apply traditional techniques with a partner through structured sparring exercises. Kata Kumite helps bridge the gap between practicing individual movements and understanding how they work against an opponent.
Focus Stance Sparring
Develop focus, stability, distance, and control through stance-based partner training. Students learn to deliver and defend techniques with greater precision while maintaining strong positioning.
Close-In & Distance Sparring
Put karate skills into practice through controlled sparring at different ranges. Kumite develops timing, distance, reactions, strategy, and the ability to effectively apply techniques against a moving opponent.
